About this event

  • 1 hour 20 minutes

Local branches of Friends of the Earth, Extinction Rebellion, Greenpeace and Global Justice share their thoughts on the campaigns and climate actions we should care about right now if we're serious about helping more climate-compatible systems to emerge. Each speaker will have 10 minutes to share a key campaign, followed by a Q&A.

Campaigns they'll cover include:

Global Justice : "We will be raising awareness of a way to a fast, fair and properly financed energy transition. The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty would end fossil fuel expansion, fairly phase out existing use of fossil fuels and accelerate a just and equitable transition.

On Friday 21 June, 10.30am - 1pm, we will be near M&S in Broad Street for further discussion, and with a petition asking the UK government to endorse the treaty."

Reading Friends of the Earth: "We will be talking about the current, nationally co-ordinated FoE campaign ‘United for Warm Homes’, which addresses local issues with fuel poverty and high carbon emissions. A petition calls for:

  • Urgent support for people dealing with sky-high energy bills
  • A new emergency programme to insulate our heat-leaking homes
  • An energy system powered by cheap, green renewables.

Before the general election we want candidates to sign a pledge to support our campaign for a new nationwide home insulation programme. Reading FoE e-mail info@readingfoe.org.uk Reading FoE website https://readingfoe.co.uk/ National FoE website https://friendsoftheearth.uk/

Extinction Rebellion: Everything you didn't know about Extinction Rebellion
"XR is a non-violent civil disobedience movement, made up of everyday people seeking a solution to the climate and ecological crises. Individual action can never be sufficient. We ask our governments and corporations, here and internationally, to tell the truth, to act decisively to reduce emissions and protect nature, and to use citizens assemblies to achieve these aims."
